Helicopter Ground School Training Course Objectives
Gives helicopter students the necessary aeronautical knowledge for FAA private pilot written test. Take with a qualified Helicopter Flight Training program to prepare for FAA requirements to receive your Private Helicopter Pilot’s license.

Ground School Training Course Completion Standards
Students demonstrate their capabilities and knowledge through oral and written tests. At completion students should be ready to take the the FAA private pilot written exam.

Stages of Helicopter Ground School Training **
HeliSat’s Ground School Training program is divided into three stages.

  • Stage 1 (Lessons 1-7) - students will study helicopter components, systems, instruments and basic aerodynamics. Methods for determining helicopter weight and balance performance will be introduced
  • Stage 2 (Lessons 8-14) - students will be introduced to aviation weather, the flight computer and the Aeronautical Information Manual
  • Stage 3 (Lessons 15-19) - students will be introduced to Visual Flight Rules (VFR) charts, radio navigation, cross-country planning, the navigation plotter, psychological and physiological considerations and federal aviation regulations

HeliSat Helicopter Ground School Lesson Plan
Lesson 1 Introduces students to the helicopter's components, systems and instruments.
Lesson 2 Study basic aerodynamics to understand the principles of helicopter flight.
Lesson 3 Continuation of the principles of helicopter flight.
Lesson 4 Introduction to aerodynamics of turns, loads and autorotative descents.
Lesson 5 Helicopter flight manual and helicopter performance.
Lesson 6 Weight and balance theory and computations.
Lesson 7 Review and test.
Lesson 8 Basics of weather elements and their effect on flight.
Lesson 9 Understanding of weather and its effects on you as a pilot.
Lesson 10 Use aviation weather reports from the National Weather Service.
Lesson 11 The flight computer and its use in computations for navigation.
Lesson 12 The Aeronautical Information Manual and other sources of information.
Lesson 13 Airport and helicopter operations, facilities and services.
Lesson 14 Review and test.
Lesson 15 VFR charts and navigation plotter, and pilot’s use in cross-country flights.
Lesson 16 Radio navigation and application to cross-country flights.
Lesson 17 Planning cross-country flights.
Lesson 18 Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). Affects psychological and physiological factors can have on a pilot.
Lesson 19 Review and test in preparation for FAA Private Pilot Written Exam.
